Dear SJV
Families,
Welcome to this year's music curriculum. Surrounding your child with
music can add a wonderful dimension to his or her life. Here are some
ideas for you to share the benefits of music at home and at Church.
Encourage your student to do the assignments to the best of his or her
ability. Most of the music assignments are completed during class
time. In the first half of Unit 1, students learn about others
who make music and create their own rhythms. In the second half of the
unit, students learn to explain the moods and feelings associated with
the world around them in music. They will have the opportunity to play
pitched and un-pitched instruments as the time allows and will be able
to sing music in
the church during weekly liturgies.
Here are some ways you can participate in the learning process at
home:
* Tap out rhythms together.
* Ask questions about your child's favorite music.
--Why does he or she like it?
--What moods are expressed?
* Try listening to music together while you work around the
house.
--Are chores more fun to do?
--Does the work seem to get done faster?
* While you are listening to music, have your child play a short
improvisation using his or instrument of
choice...pat or clap the rhythms.
* Encourage your child to sing and...
* Think of other ways you can use music to enrich the day-to-day
life of
your family.
Good luck, and enjoy the music!
Sincerely,
Mrs. B. Roberts,
St. John Vianney Grade School Music Teacher
