Respect Life

As a Respect Life Ministry our goal is to pray for the end of abortion, for those considering an abortion, and those who have had one; to be visible and available to help anyone with any concerns on the life issues; to inform as many as possible that all aspects of life are sacred from natural conception to natural death; and to follow and inform the teachings of the Church on all life issues.  All are welcome to join whether in prayer or in person; we meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

This ministry strives to serve the needy of our parish.  Aside from receiving calls for help and responding whenever possible with food and financial aid, we offer solace and hope for a brighter future through prayer and encouragement. Help is always needed to answer those calls, obtain food donations and stock pantry shelves, and assist with fund raising events from time to time.

Cursillo: English

The Cursillo experience renews one’s faith and gives a deeper understanding of our Christian commitment as Catholics. The Cursillo integrates our faith and beliefs into our daily environment.  This experience starts with a weekend retreat that is part study, education, celebration and part discovery. While the Cursillo lasts just one weekend, you get the tools to persevere for the rest of your life.  We teach group reunion and have “Ultreyas” for community growth and strength in Christ.

Collegiate Apostles- Young Adult Ministry

Collegiate Apostles is our college-aged young adult ministry (ages 18-25) and meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month during the school year. Gathering in faith, for fellowship, and with food, the Collegiate Apostles is an opportunity for some relief from our busy schedules and a chance to grow deeper in our relationship with God and each other. Don’t feel like you have to commit to each gathering, just come when you can. You and your friends are always welcome!

Men’s Group

Sacred Heart Prayer Group Healing

The Sacred Heart Charismatic prayer group meets every 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of every month.  The Charismatic Prayer Meeting provides a time to come away from our busy lives to give thanks and praise to God through song, prayer, and scripture, through the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  When necessary we gather as a community of believers to pray a prayer of faith for those who are ill or are experiencing difficulties in life.  We meet from 7 – 8 pm at the Sacred Heart House.

This fellowship will lead us to an understanding of how God asks us to become a vessel for his work in our parish and the community as a whole.

St. John Bosco Center

The Outreach Ministry operates the St. John Bosco Center at 12443 W. Illini St. in Avondale, AZ.  The Center serves as a place where all children, regardless of race, religion, or economic background can come to receive services to improve their quality of life.  The Center is directed and staffed by the Salesian Sisters with the help of lay volunteers to provide Christian formation to the young, with special attention to the poor and other at-risk families.

Bereavement Ministry

This ministry offers support and consolation within our community of faith, by making Jesus’ love known when a loved one’s life on earth has come to an end.  We will be present for the family during their time of loss and will provide help for those facing the pain of separation and the many changes that loss creates.  Our ministry consists of two teams.  Consolers:  A wonderful group of volunteers who provide follow up support and attend the services.  Hospitality:  A group of volunteers who provide desserts for the family following the funeral. We are looking for compassionate people who are willing to stay committed to the services provided by our ministry.

 Ministers of Care

Is anyone among you suffering? They should pray. Is anyone in good spirits? They should sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? They should summon the ministers of the church, and they should pray over them and in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise them up.
It is with these words of encouragement from the letter of St. James that we go out to serve the needs of the sick in our community. A loving touch, a healing prayer, a kind word and the desire to be Christ to those who desire his presence in communion with the whole church, this is all that is required of you as a Minister of Care. We will prepare you to serve the sick in their homes, in the hospitals and in long term care homes. As a certified Eucharistic Minister you will be sent out to bring that which nourishes both the body and the soul: Our Lord Jesus in the most Holy Sacrament. You can serve as an on-call minister for short term home and hospital visits or you can join a team of ministers who serve the needs of the home bound or those in long term care. It is your choice; all we ask is that you choose to serve.
